We have a grant to put together short cooking segments, about 15 minutes, on ethnic cooking for one or two people. If you are an amateur cook and have a short recipe that you are willing to share over Zoom with others in the community, please contact me at office@edmontonseniorscentre.ca. ESC can help with the purchase of ingredients, as long as receipts are in order, we can edit the segments, and there will be training on how to do the filming and uploading. This is a great way to share with others a favourite recipe along with your memories about cooking it with your family or friends. As you will recall, last summer we moved to a new database. It was expensive, very expensive, but we knew we had to have an encrypted system that was safe for seniors to feel confident inputting their payment information. We found a sponsor for the short term but very expensive solution, but now that sponsor's not funding next year. We knew that was going to be the case, so we wrote a grant to get money to hire a web designer to create an encrypted, secure online database and e-commerce site to use. The good news is that the new site costs 1/6th as much as the very expensive site, and is something the staff can maintain without huge costs. I bet you didn't know that Willie Wong, apart from being a great artist and teach can cook! Have a look at his new Saturday afternoon class. These classes will begin in March. Check the website for dates. To register for the class go here: Courses Twice a month in March and April, Willie will be teaching Malaysian cooking, Nyonya style. This a an unique meals which was created after the colonialism in Malaysia. A blend of Chinese, Indonesian. Malay and Indian cuisine. All ingredients are available at either superstore or T&T grocery stores on Calgary trail. You'll be sent the shopping list before each session. The classes will be every other Saturday from 4 to 6pm, just in time for supper!
