ESC is looking for people how are either willing to do a 15 minute recipe and share the cultural or personal story behind the recipe or for people to share their stories about what kinds of memories, cultural celebrations, or special occasions your connection to food evokes. Ethnic Cooking Show Needs Volunteers

We have a grant to put together short cooking segments, about 15 minutes, on ethnic cooking for one or two people. If you are an amateur cook and have a short recipe that you are willing to share over Zoom with others in the community, please contact me at office@edmontonseniorscentre.ca. ESC can help with the purchase of ingredients, as long as receipts are in order, we can edit the segments, and there will be training on how to do the filming and uploading. This is a great way to share with others a favourite recipe along with your memories about cooking it with your family or friends. Database Changes Coming

As you will recall, last summer we moved to a new database. It was expensive, very expensive, but we knew we had to have an encrypted system that was safe for seniors to feel confident inputting their payment information. We found a sponsor for the short term but very expensive solution, but now that sponsor's not funding next year. We knew that was going to be the case, so we wrote a grant to get money to hire a web designer to create an encrypted, secure online database and e-commerce site to use. The good news is that the new site costs 1/6th as much as the very expensive site, and is something the staff can maintain without huge costs. It is secure, the servers are in Canada, and the payment process is Canadians…

I bet you didn't know that Willie Wong, apart from being a great artist and teach can cook! Have a look at his new Saturday afternoon class. These classes will begin in March. Check the website for dates. To register for the class go here: Courses Twice a month in March and April, Willie will be teaching Malaysian cooking, Nyonya style. This a an unique meals which was created after the colonialism in Malaysia. A blend of Chinese, Indonesian. Malay and Indian cuisine.    All ingredients are available at either superstore or T&T grocery stores on Calgary trail. You'll be sent the shopping list before each session.    The classes will be every other Saturday from 4 to 6pm, just in time for supper!

Thank you to all who applied for our Fraud Prevention Focus groups. Our focus groups are full. It will be a few more weeks before you receive content to examine and give feedback on. Thank you, again, for volunteering on this important community project that give seniors the tools they need to guard against fraud -- especially internet based fraud.

Vaccine Roll Out Alberta Seniors

Starting February 24 at 8:00 a.m., community seniors 75+ will be able to book vaccine appointments. In anticipation of this, here are some key pieces of information to help you support the seniors you serve:   Seniors who are 74 turning 75 are eligible to book. These were updated on Wednesday, so check the website to see if you qualify.Vaccinations can be booked for the first and second doses by contacting Health Link at 811 or through the online booking system at www.ahs.ca/covidvaccine. Please be patient when booking. Staffing for Health Link has been increased, but AHS expects an enormous demand. The first appointment available will be 11 a.m. tomorrow, except for Edmonton, that will have their first appointment at 12:30 p.m.Appointment times are between 8:20 a.m. and 3:40 p.m., seven days a week. Plans are underway to extend these hours in mid-March…
