My name is Yu Ting and I am writing on behalf of Barkerville Historic Town & Park, an 1860s historic gold rush town that is located in central British Columbia.
The circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic have had a profound effect on all of our lives, and in response, our organization has recently started a campaign entitled “Greetings from History: 2000 Letters for the Lonely”, in which our historical interpreters will craft personalized, handwritten letters to be sent out to those in need of human connection. The letter is intended to be a surprise, and hopefully a delightful distraction from the isolation that we are all facing. This campaign is targeted primarily for seniors living in long-term care who are unable to visit with their families, as well as adolescents who are missing their friends and loved ones, and people who are stuck far from home as a result of the pandemic, but anyone can be nominated for a letter. We are seeking your help in nominating deserving recipients to receive a letter.
Do you know someone in your organization who would be overjoyed to receive a letter from one of our historical characters? All you need to do is go to http://www.barkerville.ca/greetings-from-history/ and click the nomination link. Once the information about your recipient has been entered, one of our characters will be assigned to craft your nominee’s letter. You can nominate as many people as you wish, and our letters are available in English, French, and simplified Chinese. A donation is not required to make a nomination, but they are always appreciated as it will help extend our campaign into the new year.
Should you wish to discuss our campaign in further detail, I can be contacted via this email, or we can arrange a phone appointment.
Thank you for your time today, and best wishes this holiday season,
Warm regards,
Yu Ting Gao
Historical Interpreter
