We have a grant to put together short cooking segments, about 15 minutes, on ethnic cooking for one or two people. If you are an amateur cook and have a short recipe that you are willing to share over Zoom with others in the community, please contact me at office@edmontonseniorscentre.ca. ESC can help with the purchase of ingredients, as long as receipts are in order, we can edit the segments, and there will be training on how to do the filming and uploading. This is a great way to share with others a favourite recipe along with your memories about cooking it with your family or friends. If there is a story about the receipt, like that we learned from a Vietnamese woman about the significance of crocodile bread in her culture, then we very much want that story to be shared. Your cooking segment will be shown on our website with a link to our YouTube channel, and on ESCTV as part of our regular programming.
We are excited about this new project and hope many of you will participate. You can involve your grandchildren and children if you are isolating together as this is an intergenerational project and something that can be shared throughout the generations. In the fall, we hope that we can open our centre and do some of the baking and cooking filming there, but we’ll all have to wait and see what the future brings us. In the meantime, please contact us if you are interested in becoming part of this fun project.
