ELLA 2021 Goes Online

ELLA is going online! This is a chance to take interesting classes, learn something new, and enjoy the abundance of knowledge in our community. The Edmonton LifeLong Learners Association (ELLA) is an entirely volunteer-run organization that has partnered with the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Extension to provide a variety of educational, non-credit courses to adults aged 50+. ELLA’s programming moved online in 2020 allowing our reach to go beyond Edmonton and the area. Our Winter Session starts in January 2021 with over 30 online course options in Humanities, Science, Wellness and Leisure, Fine Arts and Art Instruction. An annual ELLA membership ($25) is required to register.  ELLA members get access to Free Friday Noon Hour Presentations starting January 8, 2021. Games Research U of A

Looking for participants for the research study: Serious Games for Engagement and Positive Emotions during the COVID-19 pandemic. The University of Alberta is conducting a study to assess if computer games designed for older adults make them feel they are involved in enjoyable, meaningful activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study is seeking participants aged 65 and above across Canada who have their own device (Android tablet or computer) and an internet connection and who want to play the games for 12 weeks.  If you want to know more about the study or you want to participate, send an email to Melika Torabgar: torabgar@ualberta.ca. Do You Want to Participate in a Hearing Study? A hearing research team based in the University of Alberta's Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is now recruiting participants for a study about your experiences using a newly designed online hearing screening tool. Study Title: Online Hearing Activity – User Experience Study Purpose: Hearing care professionals are interested in developing user-friendly online tools that allow Canadians to learn more about their hearing without having to travel to a clinic. This study will involve completing an online hearing activity that features techniques similar to those used in clinical tests. Our research team is working to develop and improve this online tool. FEDS OUTLINE PLAN TO ADMINISTER FIRST COVID-19 VACCINES, LAUNCHING ‘DRY RUN’ NEXT WEEK

According to CTV News, there is great news to uplift your spirits during the holiday season -- the government is working to find a way of launching the vaccines that will help ensure distribution when the vaccine is our of production and ready for Canadians.
